VS-Films Festival in Sokhna celebrating prestigious
filmmakers and giving a chance to young talente
The VS-Films Festival is the first qualitative festival for very short films that do not exceed ten minutes in length. It includes competitions for feature films, documentaries, and animation.
Festival founder Ziad Basmair and festival president Osama Abonar are passionate about bringing stories to life through very short films.
Whether you’re a seasoned industry professional or a budding filmmaker ready to be discovered, VS-Films offers the stage for expressing yourself in 2 to 10 minute films. Young talents can enter in the Open or Junior category for school-aged students.
Talents like Saudi screenwriter Ayman Aldasimand and director
Mohammed Ous attended the festival aswell as well established filmmakers like the Saudi animator Alabbas Bin Alabbas who was honored with the Livetime Achievement Award at the festival, actors and actresses like Iraki Cairo based actress and singer Klodia Hanna or Egyptian actress Hanan Motawie who received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the VSFF in Sokhna and earlier last month was on stage in El Gouna in order to receive the Humanity Award on behalf of director Sarah Goher for "Happy Birthday". Motawie plays a mother mother who is forced to send her daughter to work for a rich family, a courage undertake, child labour is a sensitive subject in Egypt.
Venetian based art curator and advisor to the festival Chiara Dona dalle Rose, herself an artist returned to Egypt one month after she attended early October the Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries.with a short she produced. Her mission is to help the festival to grow, focus are art and environment. The second objective environment has just been added by the founder Ziad Basmair just before the festival started and while there was no content in regards of green shooting at the current edition there is a lot in the pipeline in the future. This has been only the second edition, and already very well organised, to be continued with big expectations, aspirations and anticipations!
