Visions du Réel unveils the projects selected for the 23rd
edition of VdR–Industry
Visions du Réel is delighted to unveil the projects selected for the 23rd edition of VdR–Industry! This year’s selection includes 28 projects from 28 countries, a record number of female directors, returning award-winning alumni, and a host of new talent. The Festival will showcase new projects from Sarvnik Kaur, Jonathan Perel, Mariana Otero, Hassen Ferhani, Justine Harbonnier and more.
In the two showcases pitching events, 14 projects in development will be part of VdR–Pitching, presented in partnership with SRG SSR, and six projects in finishing stages will be presented at the VdR–Work In Progress. Four projects have been selected for both the VdR–Rough Cut Lab and the VdR–Development Lab respectively. An inspiring 21 projects (75%) are directed or co-directed by female directors. In its continuing commitment to supporting filmmakers of the Global South, 40% of the official industry selection represent directors and producers working in low capacity countries, while Visions du Réel continues to maintain its reputation of launching exciting new talent into the market, with 48% of projects directed by first-time filmmakers.

VdR–Pitching is the Festival’s highly competitive international co-production and financing platform, showcasing 14 projects in development with artistic ambition and international potential ready to be launched into production.

VdR–Work in Progress highlights six upcoming creative documentaries in their finishing stages of post-production. This boutique showcase is designed to facilitate distribution opportunities, targeting festivals, sales agents, distributors and finishing funds.

VdR–Rough Cut Lab is an intimate workshop for four feature-length projects seeking specific feedback and advice from professionals on their most up-to-date rough cut.

|
The VdR–Development Lab is a nine-month long incubator for the development of creative documentaries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. The programme offers to four selected projects the opportunity to be tutored through the development-phase in order to more easily reach and access the international market.
