THE SCELF, THE CIVIL SOCIETY OF FRENCH-SPEAKING PUBLISHERS

The SCELF is a copyright collection and distribution company, founded by literary publishers and mandated by them to collect the rights generated by the many forms of adaptation of their work. The SCELF brings together nearly 300 publishers and members, whose status varies according to the volume of their activity in the field of adaptation. It is financed by annual membership fees and a deduction from royalties. The SCELF acts as a link between the major authors' companies (SACD, SCAM, SACEM…) who receive royalties on its behalf, and the French-speaking publishers it represents, in order to redistribute these remunerations to them. Over the years, the SCELF has become a place where publishers can share their experience in the increasingly widespread practice of literary adaptation, particularly in its legal and contractual aspects.

The SCELF also aspires to encourage all forms of literary adaptation. In this context, the Rencontres SCELF de l’Audiovisuel of the Paris Book Fair started in 2009 and in 2014, the first Shoot the Book! Event happened at the Cannes Festival.
